Symptoms of Type 1

The following are warning signs or symptoms associated with type 1 diabetes. I am not from the medical field, just sharing knowledge that I found on google when I had noticed my child having issues with frequent urination and excessive thirst. If you are concerned and notice one or more of the symptoms fit your situation, please talk to your child's or your physician! T1D can be diagnosed up the the age of 40, and sometimes later than that.

I was extremely lucky to have noticed Sydney having issues and Jodi was lucky to have noticed Austin having similar symptoms to what they remembered Sydney being diagnosed with. Our doctors were impressed that we had came to the hospital soon enough before our kids were in DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) or worse a coma. If your child has symptoms and you have access to a blood glucose meter, ask to check your child's sugar. I used a gestational diabetic's meter at work with Sydney and Jodi brought Austin to my house to check with Sydney's meter. A blood sugar test with a number over 200 needs immediate attention.

Common Symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes

* Extreme Thirst
* Frequent urination
* Sudden weight loss
* Sudden vision changes
*  Drowsiness
* Heavy, labored breathing
* Fruity, sweet like breath

Awareness of when your child begins to exhibit different behaviors and your actions can save your child from severe complications.

To be clear....I do not have medically training, just my personal experience and what I can find on the internet to share what I am trying to say.
